About DOC'S Smokehouse

Born from a serendipitous meeting...

Doc, Aimee and Brent

Between Dr. Himanshu Doshi and Brent Brashier in the fall of 2014. Doc had a serious love for ribs and craft beer. Brent wanted to recreate the food and atmosphere of the BBQ joints he grew up with in Alabama and brisket he came to love in his second home, Austin, Texas. Before they knew it, they started work on their vision in spring of 2015, and on April 4th 2016 Doc’s Smokehouse and Craft Bar in Dyer, Indiana opened! The combination of authentic Southern BBQ and Dr. Doshi’s vision for a great bar came to fruition and Doc’s proved to be a hit, earning South Shore CVA’s Restaurant of the Year award and The Northwest Indiana Times “Best of the Region” honors in the first year of operation.

In March of 2017 Doc’s Commerce Smokehouse opened in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Located across the street from the Wisconsin Center, 2 blocks south of the Bradley Center. Doc’s Commerce is named after the historic Commerce building we occupy. The floor to ceiling windows and 100-year-old terrazzo floors are impressive but the authentic BBQ and amazing bar shine though. Faithful to the original in Dyer, Doc’s Commerce has over 60 locally driven craft beers on tap and a collection of more than 200 bourbons. In July of 2017 Doc’s Commerce Smokehouse had the honor of being named to Southern Living Magazine’s Great America Barbeque Bucket List.

Madison, Wisconsin is home to the newest member of the Doc’s family. In  December 2019, Madison saw the opening of Doc's Smokehouse second Wisconsin location. In Madison, Doc’s has the same great BBQ with a locally driven beer list featuring more than 60 taps and what might be the most impressive bourbon selection yet!

Each Doc’s has a personality all its own, but the important things are always the same: great BBQ, great beer, great bourbon and genuine Southern hospitality. On behalf of our entire team, we would like to invite you join us for some BBQ, Beer, Bourbon, Blues and a Southern good time!
